1 Simple Habit: How Dad narrowly escaped Cancer and so can You
Mis à jour : 1 oct. 2019
On a lazy Sunday, I was simply fiddling with my laptop, when a certain quote caught my eye
"Cigarettes are not a part of human behaviour, they are a habit - Joe Eszterhas"
Staring blankly at my laptop screen, I went into a time travel back to my teenage years. Those days, my father used to be a chain smoker.
Packets and packets of cigarettes would be stashed in the drawers of his large desk. Strange as it may sound now, but as a teenager, I would be tempted to pick one and try an Ava Gardner before the mirror.
While I was wrestling with my temptations, I chanced upon my mother looking rather worried. Curiosity got the better of me, and I inquired about what was making her look so anxious.
And she said 'Your dad has serious sores on his tongue, throat and bronchial pipes'. 'This could be the onset of cancer'.
There are times when you feel your knees give away. I think I can relate to that feeling very well. After so many years, that feeling remains etched in my mind.
We were a family of four and losing him was unthinkable. And yet, that fear at the pit of your stomach was a constant reminder of our predicament if further tests confirmed our worst fear.
Those days treatment for cancer was rare and very expensive. He was the only earning member of the family with three dependent members.
Weekends sped by visiting doctors and queuing through the endless list of tests. The medicines prescribed were not only expensive, but they also seemed to drain the vitality out of him.
After about three months of strict control on nicotine and strong doses of medicine, the doctors didn't seem to be happy about his condition.
It was becoming increasingly apparent, that the medicines were doing no good to him. We decided to try alternative methods of treatment.
Homeopathy didn't cure much either, except for the fact that he looked a little livelier than before.
After six months of treatment, we were slowly losing hope.
We would often meet our neighbour, a cheerful father of three children, on our way to market and various other errands. On one such meeting, he recommended that we must give Ayurvedic treatment a try. As a famous saying goes
"A drowning man will clutch at a straw - Sir Thomas More"
Father, on his advise and recommendation, contacted the Ayurveda Physician. I must be honest here to confess, that I had no inkling about what Ayurveda was and certainly didn't believe that it could heal a potentially cancer-afflicted patient, on whom all modern medications hardly made any effect.
What intrigued me though was the odd looking bottles and equally odd-looking contents inside them.
Peculiar was the apparatus made of stone, reminded me of the stone tools of the early man. Is father going to consume some ancient medicine?
How effective would they be in modern times? What if it makes matter worse? Are we not wasting more time and money? These endless questions, kept me preoccupied.
"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy. - Shakespeare"
After about forty-five days of this new treatment, father's appetite improved tremendously. His otherwise deteriorating general health improved, the spring in his step was back. Encouraged, we contacted our doctor for another set of Bronchoscopy.
It would be an understatement to say that the look on the doctor's face was that of complete bewilderment, as he stated that the new Bronchoscopic images depict the growth of fresh cells on the afflicted areas.
He requested my father to take his old medicines in low dosage and come back for a report after another sixty or so days.
With time, strict adherence to zero nicotine, and zero alcohol diet, his condition improved. It took about eighteen months of time till all traces of decaying cells were replaced with new fresh cells.
And when father went to that elderly Ayurvedic doctor, with the calm and assuring disposition, he almost wept with joy, unable to grasp the reality that he has been saved from the jaws of death.
And till this day, I remember his singularly simple instruction, "an Indian Gooseberry (Amla) a day keeps death away. (US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, NCBI). But keep in mind, Nature has her secrets, what is beneficial can turn into poison if consumed the wrong way."
Come back when you want to know the secrets of Nature. For now, enjoy the greatest gift of God - Life", he said.
The consumption of Indian Gooseberry or Amla as locally known has been a daily affair in the average Indian household since time immemorial. It blends most harmoniously with their Way of Life.
If you are reading this article, you probably should start getting familiar to Indian Gooseberry as well. One good reason is 'prevention is always better than cure' and secondly, modern science has now 'officially' confirmed its remedial properties. (NCBI)
So what are you waiting for?!
All adults with no pre-existing medical condition can safely start with half a teaspoon of Indian Gooseberry powder mixed with lukewarm water first thing in the morning for all seasons!
Note: Please be aware of two things :
1. Indian Gooseberry is excellent for aiding digestion and boosting your appetite. In other words, you might have to run for the loo several times 'initially'. Your body will take time to adjust to natural remedies. Indian Gooseberry is no exception!
2. If you consume Indian Gooseberry first thing in the morning, by which I mean in empty stomach. Please do not skip breakfast. You must eat your meal in the morning. If you can't eat your breakfast, skip the Indian Gooseberry.
Ayurveda is not the 'quick-fix' modern medicine system of pill-popping, Ayurveda considers nature, time of the day, season, lifestyle, physical, mental, spiritual conditions more specifically known as doshas to administer its doses.
I am not an Ayurveda certified practitioner, but I have received this same instruction from my Ayurveda physician and I share the same with you. And I do it so because billions of people in India follow the 'Way of Ayurveda' even today.
You can certainly choose an Ayurveda Certified physician for any specific ailment, but this article is to generally make you aware that Nature and Natural Remedies can work, and has been working since centuries. The secret lies in the 'Way'
